Dr Mark Lloyd

Urological Surgeon

MBBS FRACS (Urol) FUSANZ

Biography

Mark is a urological surgeon with 25 years of experience treating adult urological conditions. He is committed to providing evidence-based care with a focus on the individual patient, and to improving urinary tract health for both men and women. Mark is an accredited specialist registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Mark trained at the University of Adelaide and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, working across all of South Australia’s major hospitals before achieving his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. He went on to complete two fellowship years in the United Kingdom, where he developed further skills in surgical oncology — treating kidney, bladder and prostate cancers — alongside additional training in functional urology and the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms. He has since completed robotic surgery accreditation and advanced surgical training at Yonsei Hospital in Seoul, and now performs robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer.

For many years, Mark has served as a Director of Surgical Training for surgical registrars in South Australia, and is a registered surgical supervisor and trainer with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons having mentored over 50 Australian and international urological surgeons in minimally invasive techniques. He is a Fellow of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand and a past South Australian Chair and board member, a member of the European Association of Urology, the Urological Society of Asia and the Australian Medical Association, and a Senior Lecturer and alumnus of the University of Adelaide. He has also contributed to the Australian Safety and Evaluation of New Surgical Procedures program, and remains an active participant in continuing medical education and research, including regular audit and analysis of surgical techniques and outcomes through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ Continuing Professional Development program.

Mark takes a holistic approach to care, working alongside a team of urological surgeons, anaesthetists, oncologists and specialist nursing staff to manage complex conditions, and feels privileged to help his patients attain better health. He treats a wide range of urological cancers using the latest minimally invasive technologies, with a particular focus on bladder dysfunction and advanced therapies. He also offers second opinions for patients seeking an alternative view, and is a visiting medical officer at the Adelaide Community Hospital Alliance, Calvary Hospitals and the Central Adelaide Local Health Network. His areas of expertise span lower urinary tract symptoms in men and women, urinary symptoms and infections, kidney stones, prostate enlargement (including Green Light Laser photovaporisation), prostate and kidney cancer (da Vinci robotic surgery), bladder and testicular cancer, vasectomy, male sexual dysfunction, bladder dysfunction, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, Botox therapy, advanced sacral neuromodulation, and urology in the elderly.

Our Commitment

Your privacy matters to us, and protecting it is part of how we provide your care.

As a specialist urology practice, we collect sensitive personal and health information so our surgeons can give you the best possible treatment. We take seriously our responsibility to handle that information carefully, securely and only for the purposes you’d expect.

This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We manage your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and we’re happy to talk through any of this with you directly if you have questions.

What We Collect

We collect the information needed to assess, treat and care for you safely. This typically includes your name, contact details, date of birth, Medicare and health fund details, and information from your GP referral.

It also includes clinical information relevant to your care: your medical history, test results, imaging, treatment notes and any other health information your surgeon needs to provide an accurate diagnosis and the right care plan. We only collect what’s relevant to your treatment, and only through appropriate means: directly from you, from your referring GP, or from other treating practitioners involved in your care.

How We Use It

Your information is used to provide and coordinate your care only. This includes assessing your condition, planning and delivering treatment, arranging investigations or surgery, and communicating with your referring GP and any other specialists involved in your treatment.

We may also use your information for appointment reminders, billing and claims with Medicare or your health fund, and for our own clinical record-keeping and quality and safety obligations. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing without your consent. Where we need to share information with hospitals, anaesthetists or other treating practitioners, we only share what’s necessary for your care.

Your Rights

You have the right to know what information we hold about you, and to have a say in how it’s used. You can request access to your medical records at any time, and ask us to correct any information that’s incorrect or out of date.

You can also ask us questions about how your information is being handled, or raise a concern if you feel it hasn’t been managed appropriately. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you have the right to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). We keep your health records for the period required by law, and store them securely whether in physical or electronic form.
